Le sucre de la hacienda Pomalca, jadis embarqué par rail sur la jetée de 1912, n'a laissé à Pimentel qu'une vieille grue et des rails rouillés. Sur la côte de Lambayeque, près de Chiclayo, ce ponton restauré sert désormais au tourisme et à la pêche artisanale, avec les traditionnels caballitos de totora en roseau. Rade ouverte au tirant d'eau d'environ 3,4 m, le site n'offre aucune manutention moderne de conteneurs ou de vrac. Le commerce maritime du nord du Pérou transite par les ports en eau profonde de Paita et Salaverry.
