Port Taranaki à New Plymouth (code LOCODE : NZ NPL) est le seul port en eau profonde sur la côte ouest de la Nouvelle-Zélande et le troisième plus grand port du pays en volume total de trafic. Le port a traité plus de 3 millions de tonnes de marchandises en 2024/25, en se spécialisant dans les produits énergétiques : le Newton King Tanker Terminal traite le pétrole brut, le méthanol et le GPL, et Methanex exploite des installations de stockage de méthanol sur place. À partir de 2026, Port Taranaki est développé comme site d'un terminal d'importation de GNL national : le gouvernement néo-zélandais a présélectionné deux projets mi-2026, avec un objectif de mise en service d'ici début 2028 pour pallier le déclin de la production gazière domestique.
