Depuis 2004, plusieurs dizaines de navires de croisière par saison font escale à Icy Strait Point, l'ancienne conserverie de saumon restaurée de Hoonah, sur l'île Chichagof. La ville reste avant tout une communauté de pêche tlingit, et son approvisionnement en marchandises repose sur des barges et le terminal de ferry de l'Alaska Marine Highway (UN/LOCODE US HNH), qui traite véhicules et marchandises diverses en mode roulier. Aucun service régulier de conteneurs ni dédouanement international n'y est assuré. Faute de liaison routière, toute desserte de l'arrière-pays se fait par mer ou par air, Juneau (environ 65 km) faisant office de centre régional de transbordement. Pour les transitaires, Hoonah est un port de pêche et de ravitaillement, non une porte conteneurisée.
