Au large du sud-ouest de la Sardaigne, sur l'île de San Pietro, Carloforte (IT CLF) s'inscrit dans une économie insulaire de pêche et de liaisons maritimes plutôt que de fret industriel. Les transbordeurs de la compagnie Delcomar relient plusieurs fois par heure Carloforte à Portovesme et à Calasetta, désenclavant les quelque 6 500 habitants de l'île.
