Zirku is an export node for crude oil, not a port for commercial freight. Operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) on an island in the Persian Gulf about 140 km north-west of Abu Dhabi, it processes, stores and ships crude from the offshore Upper Zakum, Umm Al-Dalkh and Satah fields, exporting crude oil only. Two single-point moorings (SPM) accommodate tankers up to 350,000 DWT at around 21 metres draught, and the terminal handles roughly 300 tankers a year. An extensive tank farm makes the Zirku Oil Terminal one of the largest crude storage sites in the UAE. For forwarders moving containers, breakbulk or project cargo, Zirku offers no confirmed capability and should not be treated as a general-cargo port. Khalifa Port and Mina Zayed in Abu Dhabi, or Jebel Ali in Dubai, are the practical alternatives for commercial shipments.
