Launched as the Russian anchor of the Primorye-2 transport corridor, Zarubino channels cargo from China's landlocked Jilin province to the Sea of Japan via the Kraskino road crossing and a rail link. The ice-free harbour on Troitsa Bay handles roughly 750,000 tonnes a year, mainly timber, metal, fish and foodstuffs, with cargo-pier depths of about 7 to 9 metres better suited to breakbulk and reefer parcels than to large container vessels. A feeder container service once connected Hunchun, Zarubino and Busan, while a long-discussed grain terminal remains planned rather than confirmed. For high-volume container moves and deep-sea services, Vladivostok and Vostochny/Nakhodka offer far greater capacity. Forwarders mainly value Zarubino for regional timber, fish and project cargo and for the short sea leg to Japan and Korea.
