An open quay of 480 metres, extended by lateral dolphins to roughly 1,000 metres of berthing, lets Zarate work two RoRo vessels at once on the Paraná River, about 90 kilometres upstream of Buenos Aires. Operated by TZ Terminales Portuarias, the site has run Latin America's first purpose-built vehicle terminal since 1996 and moves on the order of 625,000 cars a year for manufacturers and car-carrier lines. A 45-tonne gantry crane and five reach stackers support breakbulk, project and agricultural cargo alongside the vehicle business, while scheduled container-line traffic is limited. Road and rail links connect the terminal to the industrial and farming hinterland of Buenos Aires province. For full container services or dry-bulk parcels, shippers turn to Buenos Aires, Campana or the up-river terminals around Rosario.
