Under the code GR YER, Yerakini — also spelled Gerakini — is the loading point for one commodity above all: magnesite. On the Toroneos Gulf in Chalkidiki, about 80 km from Thessaloniki, it serves as the seaport of Polygyros, the prefectural capital some 10 km inland. Grecian Magnesite works the largest magnesite deposits in northern Greece here, shipping raw and calcined product from a pier near the village. The port is built around this bulk and industrial profile; no general liner, container or customs traffic is confirmed. Hinterland access is by road toward Polygyros and Thessaloniki. For containers, break-bulk or internationally cleared cargo, the port of Thessaloniki is the practical alternative.
