Within Putian's Meizhou Bay port cluster on the Fujian coast, Xiuyu is one of several zones that together handle steel, granite, cement, oil products and general cargo. Facing the Taiwan Strait with an approach depth of about 12.5 metres, the basin is geared mainly to bulk and breakbulk, while container volumes remain modest beside the nearby hub of Xiamen. The wider complex also hosts the Fujian LNG terminal and the Meizhou Wan coal-power jetty, giving the bay a distinctly industrial profile. Inland distribution runs over the road and rail network serving Putian, Quanzhou and Fuzhou. Customs clearance is handled by China Customs within the Putian port administration. For scheduled container traffic into south-east China, Xiamen (CN XMN) or Fuzhou are the stronger options.
