Anchored in Anhui province's industrial belt, Wuhu is an active Yangtze River port serving coal, agricultural produce, textiles and manufactured goods from its hinterland. Container volumes run on the order of 100,000 TEU with roughly 70 vessel calls a month, handled at dedicated berths alongside bulk cargo. As an inland river port upstream of Nanjing, it works chiefly as a feeder to the deep-sea system at the Yangtze mouth, with customs handled in coordination with the Shanghai International Shipping Center via hubs such as Taicang. A channel of around 6.4 metres caps vessel size to river craft and feeders. Road, rail and the dense Yangtze barge network connect the Anhui interior. Ocean boxes move via Shanghai or Ningbo, with Nanjing the nearer regional alternative.
