Built in 1832 to feed the world's first regular steam passenger railway, Whitstable Harbour (GB WTS) in Kent has always been a modest works rather than a trade gateway. Today the town-owned harbour handles only light commercial traffic at East Quay – imported roadstone and aggregates, occasional timber on small coasters – alongside a working oyster and fishing fleet and crew-transfer vessels for the Kentish Flats offshore wind farm.
