# Weymouth Harbour (GB WEY)

**UN/LOCODE:** GB WEY
**Country:** United Kingdom
**Water Body:** English Channel; North Atlantic Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Small
**Harbor Type:** Coastal (Natural)
**GPS:** 50.6167, -2.4500

Roman galleys once beached on the Wey to unload for Dorchester, and by the 19th century Weymouth shipped Channel Islands produce and imported fertiliser by rail-connected quay. Today its tidal harbour is given over mainly to fishing boats, leisure craft and seasonal traffic, with Condor's Channel Islands ferries having largely shifted their larger vessels to Poole. At about 4.9 metres depth and with no liner or container operation, Weymouth's commercial cargo role is now slight; forwarders serving Dorset rely on the deep-water ports of Poole, Portland and Southampton.
