Crude oil, LPG, steel, machinery and general cargo form the backbone of trade at Warri, a multipurpose port complex in Nigeria's Niger Delta. Controlled by the Nigerian Ports Authority and run by private concession operators, it comprises the New Warri Port and the older Old Port (refinery jetty), together offering roughly 1,300 m of quay and about 27,500 m² of warehousing. The New Port also takes containers, breakbulk and dry bulk, though throughput is modest at around 382,000 tonnes and some 1,000 TEU a year. River access along the Forcados channel, with about 6.4 m of depth, caps the size of vessels that can call. Inland distribution runs mainly by road into the Delta and toward Benin City rather than by rail. For larger container or deep-draught consignments, shippers generally use Onne, Port Harcourt, or the Lagos ports of Apapa and Tin Can Island.
