Light oil products, stabilised gas condensate and methanol — railed in from Russian refineries — make up the working cargo of Vitino, an oil port on the Kandalaksha Gulf of the White Sea, about 28 km south of Kandalaksha in Murmansk Oblast. Its core business is transferring these liquids from rail to sea-going tankers for export, with a planned throughput of up to 4 million tonnes a year. Operating since 1995 and year-round since 2001, the port can take tankers of around 40,000 t, 230 m in length and 10.9 m draught, and has recently featured in condensate shipments linked to the Arctic LNG 2 project. Containers, breakbulk and RoRo are not part of this purely liquid-bulk terminal's profile, and it offers no general-cargo customs handling. Forwarders moving dry or containerised freight in the region use Murmansk or Arkhangelsk instead. For crude and product exports, Primorsk and Ust-Luga are the larger Baltic alternatives.
