Loaded box trucks, queued cars and an early freight run set the daily rhythm at Vineyard Haven, the principal year-round ferry harbour for Martha's Vineyard off the Massachusetts coast. The Steamship Authority links it to Woods Hole in about 45 minutes, and for freight purposes the harbour functions as the island's supply line rather than a commercial cargo port. Trucks, building materials, food and fuel reach the island by RoRo aboard vessels such as the freight ferry M/V Governor; there is no container terminal and no routine international customs clearance. Pier depths of roughly 6.4 m suit ferries and small supply craft, not deep-sea ships. Shippers moving containerised or international cargo should route via Boston's Conley Terminal or New Bedford and arrange the final leg by ferry. Planning around sailing windows and mainland pre-carriage is the realistic approach for any breakbulk or project load bound for the Vineyard.
