Timber, wooden board, cement, fish oil, formol, frozen fish and packed tinplate have long defined the cargo mix at Vilagarcía de Arousa, the only port of general state interest on Galicia's Ría de Arousa. Its container terminal, run by Boluda Maritime Terminals, spreads over more than 50,000 m² with two gantry cranes and over 90 reefer points, served by two lines reaching national, European and transatlantic destinations. About 399 vessels totalling some 2.1 million GT call each year. Road links via the AP-9 motorway and a rail connection tie the quays into the Galician hinterland. For larger container volumes, nearby Vigo remains the stronger option, while Marín-Pontevedra and A Coruña suit general and bulk cargo.
