Five docks, around 500 metres of commercial berthing, three mobile cranes up to 100 tonnes and 40,000 m² of storage define Punta Penna, the port of Vasto on Italy's Adriatic Abruzzo coast. It is the leading commercial harbour of the southern Abruzzo seaboard, handling on average some 550,000 tonnes a year, predominantly dry and liquid bulk plus general cargo rather than container liner services. A cargo-quay depth of about 4.9 m limits the size of vessels worked. Inland distribution across Abruzzo and Molise runs via the A14 motorway and a rail connection. Shippers requiring container or deep-sea services use Ortona, Ancona or Bari.
