A single-point mooring for tankers of up to 350,000 DWT, a product berth for vessels to 100,000 DWT and tank farms exceeding 3 million cubic metres define the marine infrastructure at Vadinar, in the Gulf of Kutch, Gujarat. This is an energy terminal pure and simple, feeding the Nayara Energy refinery at Vadinar — at 20 MMTPA, India's second-largest single-site refinery. The all-weather captive port can handle around 27 MMTPA of crude and 14 MTPA of products, with the SPM taking VLCC-class crude carriers offshore. Rail and road gantries with some 13 kilometres of siding move products inland from the terminal. Containers, breakbulk and dry bulk are not handled here; for those, Mundra and Deendayal (Kandla) in the same gulf are the appropriate ports. The terminal is operated by Nayara Energy, formed from the Rosneft and Trafigura/UCP consortium.
