Tuna and shrimp set the rhythm at Vacamonte, Panama's leading fishing port, on the Pacific coast some 22 kilometres south-west of Panama City. The harbour is geared to fisheries, with berths for fishing vessels, fish offloading and processing areas, and maintenance and repair facilities for the fleet. Cargo handled is dominated by fish and other perishables, alongside agricultural products moving for export, supported by warehouses and open storage. Vessel size is capped at roughly 3,000 tonnes, 120 metres length and 7.0 metres draught, which rules out container ships. Reefer capacity serves chilled seafood exports, while containerised and international liner cargo is handled at nearby Balboa, the PSA container port on the Pacific side of the Panama Canal. Road links run inland to Panama City and the Pan-American Highway.
