A single Canadian National ore dock in Agate Bay defines Two Harbors: this is a specialised bulk loading port on Lake Superior, not a general-cargo or container facility. Taconite pellets from the Mesabi Range mines arrive by rail and are loaded into lake freighters that carry them across the Great Lakes to steel mills, with the dock moving roughly 15.4 million short tons of iron ore in 2021. The rail link drives the whole system – the former Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway, now part of CN, runs ore straight to the quay.
