Five berths totalling about 1,150 m of quay at 7.6–10.0 m draught, two container terminals and four weatherproof light cargo halls give Turku, at the mouth of the Aura river in southwest Finland, a flexible unitised-cargo setup. The port's character is firmly RoRo and passenger: daily ferries run the fastest route from Turku to Stockholm and, via Mariehamn, to the Åland Islands. Cargo reached about 1.7 million tonnes in 2024, with imports up some 11 percent and exports down around 6 percent, most of it unit-load freight on modern ro-ro vessels. The West Harbour is the centre for container handling and part of the ro-ro flow, with operator Finnsteve providing stevedoring, a container terminal, depot and documentation services. Dry bulk, container and liquid cargo can all be worked here. For large deep-sea container volumes, nearby HaminaKotka or Helsinki are the primary gateways, while Turku's strength lies in Nordic RoRo and ferry links.
