About 730,000 TEU passed through Trieste's Molo VII container terminal (Trieste Marine Terminal) in 2024, against a rated capacity above 1.2 million. Italy's north-eastern port (IT TRS) sits at the head of the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor and runs daily block trains to Austria, southern Germany, Hungary and Slovakia. A planned new terminal, Molo VIII — an HHLA-led multipurpose facility whose public consultation opened in 2025 — is to add container and Ro-Ro capacity from around 2029.
