The eastern Black Sea region's trade runs largely through Trabzon, the largest port on Turkey's eastern Black Sea coast and a gateway for transit cargo to Iran and Iraq. Operated by the Albayrak group as Trabzonport, it offers nine berths totalling about 2,235 metres of quay, an annual capacity near 10 million tonnes and roughly 350,000 TEU of container capacity, handling around 2,500 vessels a year. General cargo dominates traffic, with exports including cereals, vegetables, fruit, tea and hazelnuts. Mobile and ship cranes, reach stackers and a free-trade zone support both container and break-bulk operations. Road links cross the Pontic mountains to the interior, though the region largely lacks rail access. For very large container flows, Samsun or the main hubs around Istanbul remain the alternatives.
