Tompkinsville is a waterfront section on the north-eastern shore of Staten Island, on Upper New York Bay, historically known as a ferry landing and the site of the American Dock Company's general-cargo piers. Today the area is largely residential and has no active commercial cargo terminal; the adjacent waters mainly serve as anchorage within the Port of New York and New Jersey. Actual container, breakbulk and bulk shipments are handled at the region's working terminals — notably GCT New York at Howland Hook on Staten Island's western shore, the Global Terminal in Bayonne, and Port Newark–Elizabeth in New Jersey. Tompkinsville's own freight relevance is therefore limited.
