Copper mining drives the port of Sangi (PH SNG) at Toledo on the western coast of Cebu in the Philippines. Ore from the Carmen open-pit operated by Atlas Consolidated Mining's subsidiary Carmen Copper is trucked to Sangi and shipped out as concentrate, giving the port a clearly industrial, mining-export character rather than a container-line role. Toledo is also known as Cebu's "power city", with several plants — including a coal-fired station run by Toledo Power Co. — generating regular coal imports across the roadstead. A car-and-passenger ferry links Toledo to San Carlos on Negros across the Tañon Strait, adding to the regional network. Containerised and conventional import cargo, by contrast, typically moves through the Port of Cebu City on the island's east coast. For forwarders, Sangi is therefore chiefly a handling point for copper concentrate and coal, with limited suitability for general cargo.
