Founded in 1897 and shut down in 2013, the Södra Cell pulp mill long defined Tofte (UN/LOCODE NO HUR) on the Hurum peninsula along the Oslofjord. Its legacy is an industrial quay with around 11 m of depth, able to take larger cargo vessels; the wider site is now being redeveloped as an industrial park under Statkraft Tofte for energy and processing ventures. There is currently no regular container or liner service here. For forwarders, the appeal lies in project cargo, dry bulk and industry-related deliveries to the site rather than scheduled box traffic. Inland access runs by road into the greater Oslo and Drammen area. Standardised container freight for the region is best routed via Oslo or Drammen.
