Port and Terminal Multiservices (PTML), part of the Grimaldi group, anchors Tin Can Island in western Lagos, handling vehicles and containers across a complex split into five separate terminals. The port moves roughly 395,000 TEU a year against a design capacity of about 650,000 and, together with neighbouring Apapa, forms Nigeria's principal import gateway for consumer goods. A channel of around nine metres caps vessel size, so the largest mainline ships now call at the deep-water Lekki port opened in 2023. For greater capacity or larger vessels, Lekki and Onne are the practical alternatives, while adjacent Apapa suits combined consignments.
