Calling Tg. Sorong a general cargo port would mislead: this is the Kasim Marine Terminal, a dedicated crude-oil loading facility near Sorong on the western tip of West Papua, facing the Dampier Strait. Built as an open roadstead, it works through four breasting and four mooring dolphins with a set-back loading platform, and is fed by pipeline from the adjacent Pertamina Kasim refinery, which processes about 10,000 barrels a day. Tankers of up to roughly 305 m and 85,000 DWT can be handled at around 14.5 m draught. Containers, breakbulk and customs-driven merchandise are not part of its function. Such cargo moves instead through the nearby multipurpose port of Sorong.
