Operated by Terminal Investment Limited, the terminal arm of Mediterranean Shipping Company, Asyaport is the greenfield container hub that has turned Tekirdag, on the northern shore of the Sea of Marmara, into one of European Turkey's busiest container gateways. The terminal handled around 2 million TEU in 2024, up roughly 20 percent, working chiefly as a transshipment hub feeding the Black Sea via the Bosphorus; a 400-metre quay extension under way is set to lift annual capacity to about 4 million TEU by the end of 2026. The adjacent Akport terminal adds four berths (about 1,368 m of quay, depths of 8–14 m) for breakbulk, dry bulk, containers, roll-on/roll-off and project cargo, while a dedicated silo pier handles grain. With around a dozen berths and alongside drafts reaching 18 metres, the complex can take large container vessels. Situated roughly 125 km west of Istanbul, the port relieves pressure on the congested Bosphorus corridor and offers an alternative to the terminals around the Gulf of Izmit. Its hinterland, the farming region of Thrace, exports commodities such as flax and sunflower seeds, with road and rail links connecting the quays to Thracian industry and onward to Istanbul. For pure deep-sea container calls Tekirdag competes with Ambarli and Gemlik, but for RoRo and project loads it is a well-established choice. Reefer, breakbulk and containerised flows are all catered for across the terminals.
