Fishing boats landing the day's catch and a car ferry crossing Tokyo Bay set the scene at Tateyama (JP TTY), a small harbour at the tip of the Bōsō Peninsula. The Tokyo-Wan Ferry links it to Kurihama in about 40 minutes, carrying passengers and accompanied vehicles, while a 2010 multipurpose pier with 7.5 m depth can receive government vessels and cruise ships up to 30,000 GT. Scheduled container services and conventional general-cargo handling, however, do not operate here. For forwarders Tateyama is therefore not a commercial freight port; landings are essentially fresh fish for the regional market. Containerised, heavy-lift or customs-cleared consignments in the area move through the nearby deep-water ports of Chiba and Yokohama, which offer terminals and rail links.
