The Gemini Cooperation of Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd made Tanjung Pelepas (MYTPP) its principal Southeast Asian relay hub in 2025, helping lift the Malaysian terminal to 14.03 million TEU for the year, up 13.8 percent. That is the highest annual figure ever posted by a single Malaysian container terminal; the port passed 13 million TEU for the first time on 6 December 2025. It sits at the southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia on the Strait of Malacca, directly across from Singapore, and is owned by MMC Corporation (70 percent) with APM Terminals holding 30 percent. Roughly 90 percent of the volume is transshipment between mainline vessels and feeder services reaching more than 300 ports. Fourteen berths along about 5 kilometres of quay, with channel depths of 14 to 15 metres, take the largest container ships in service. A RM500 million green sukuk issued in October 2025 funds capacity work including Berth Zero, a 360-metre berth with four ship-to-shore cranes expected to raise capacity to around 16 million TEU within about two and a half years. An adjoining free zone and logistics park provides bonded warehousing, customs clearance and value-added distribution. Road and rail connect the Johor industrial belt and the Iskandar Malaysia corridor, with Kuala Lumpur roughly 330 kilometres north. Port Klang is the practical alternative for Malaysian gateway cargo and Singapore lies just across the strait, while heavy ship repair is limited here and normally done elsewhere in the region.
