# Tanjung Gerem

**Country:** Indonesia
**Water Body:** Indian Ocean, Java Sea; South Pacific Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** Open Roadstead
**GPS:** -5.9667, 105.9833

Unlike the nearby ferry quays of Merak, Tanjung Gerem is not built for passengers or boxes but for fuel. The site functions mainly as Pertamina's fuel oil distribution terminal (TBBM) for Banten and West Java, receiving petroleum products at its jetty, holding them in tank farms and dispatching them inland by road tanker. There are no liner container services or general break-bulk berths here. For dry bulk and steel cargo the adjacent Krakatau International Port is the relevant facility, while ferry traffic to Bakauheni in Sumatra runs through the Port of Merak. Its position on the busy Sunda Strait keeps sea legs to Jakarta and Sumatra short. Forwarders with containers or project cargo for Banten normally use Tanjung Priok in Jakarta; Tanjung Gerem remains a specialised energy terminal with limited general-cargo relevance.
