More than 12,000 m² of warehousing and an equally large quayside laydown define Tananger's role as an offshore supply base rather than a container gateway. Operating since 1965, the harbour near Sola — about 10 km southwest of Stavanger — was one of the first to service Norway's North Sea oil and gas fields. Bases run by NorSea and ASCO handle offshore supplies, drilling fluids, pipe and project cargo, backed by a 7,000 m³ MGO plant and a bulk plant for drilling materials. More than 60 resident firms cover drilling, subsea and heavy-duty mooring work. Road links connect the site to the Stavanger region, while rail plays no part in its freight flows. Shippers needing scheduled container or general-cargo services should route via the nearby Risavika deep-sea terminal or Stavanger.
