Despite appearing in port directories as a "seaport", Takula is not a quay where boxes are stacked or general cargo is cleared — it is an offshore crude-oil loading area off Angola's Cabinda exclave. Operated by Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (CABGOC), a Chevron subsidiary acting as operator on behalf of the Block 0 partners (Sonangol 41%, CABGOC/Chevron 39.2%, TotalEnergies 10%, ENI 9.8%), the Greater Takula fields have produced Cabinda Blend crude since their 1971 discovery, roughly 40 km west of the Malongo terminal in 50–75 m of water. In December 2025 Chevron achieved first oil at the new South N'dola platform in Block 0; in Q3 2026 Chevron confirmed an oil and gas condensate discovery at exploration well 105-4X in Block 0, extending the area's resource base. Tankers lift crude directly at offshore facilities; there is no container, reefer or breakbulk handling and no customs clearance for commercial merchandise. Takula is a pure production-and-loading zone with no road or rail hinterland for general freight. Forwarders routing containers or project cargo to Cabinda should use the Port of Cabinda, while Luanda and Soyo serve the wider Angolan market.
