Operated within the Suzhou Port group, Taicang ranks as the largest foreign-trade port on the Yangtze River and has led the waterway in container throughput for twelve consecutive years. Sitting roughly 50 kilometres upstream of Shanghai in Jiangsu province, it links one of China's densest industrial belts to global liner networks through 198 container services. Its annual box volume reached about 9.67 million TEU in 2024. For forwarders the port works on two levels: deep-sea boxes are consolidated by feeder to Shanghai's Yangshan and Waigaoqiao terminals, yet Taicang also takes direct Panamax and post-Panamax calls at berths dredged to 12.5 metres. The Yangtze's largest roll-on/roll-off terminal ships over 600,000 vehicles a year, anchoring the port in China's automobile export trade. Containers, vehicles, bulk and breakbulk all move here, supported by rail sidings and inland barge connections into the hinterland. As an open foreign-trade port, Taicang clears import and export formalities through Suzhou customs. Where schedules demand the widest deep-sea choice, Shanghai remains the obvious alternative, with Nantong and Zhangjiagang covering additional bulk needs.
