Sheltered in a deep natural bay on Sangihe Besar, Tahuna is the chief town and port of the Sangihe Islands in Indonesia's North Sulawesi province. Its quays mainly handle inter-island services of the state line Pelni, linking Tahuna with Bitung, Manado, the Talaud Islands and the remote outposts of Marore and Miangas. Historically a collection point for copra, nutmeg, cloves and fish, it works as a regional supply and passenger port rather than an international container terminal. The mountainous hinterland is served by road. Containerised and international shipments are handled through the nearby deep-sea port of Bitung, the main gateway for the whole region. Tahuna has no confirmed international customs clearance of its own.
