In the Satakunta region of western Finland, Tahkoluoto forms — together with Mäntyluoto — the Port of Pori on the Gulf of Bothnia. Tahkoluoto is the deep-water section for bulk cargo, chemicals and energy products, able to handle large bulk carriers thanks to deep fairways, quayside rail and a direct link to Highway 2. It increasingly serves as a logistics base for offshore wind: Finland's first offshore wind farm was built here in 2017, and its 2027–2029 expansion is to be handled through Pori. Throughput centres on dry bulk and project cargo rather than scheduled container liners. The Satakunta hinterland is reached by road and rail. For containerised freight, shippers use the Finnish ports of Rauma and Helsinki (Vuosaari).
