Some 2.8 GW of coal-fired generation by J-POWER and Shikoku Electric, plus a ferro-alloy plant, define the industrial port of Tachibana (Anan, JP TBN) on the east coast of Shikoku, Japan. Its main traffic is imported steam coal feeding the power stations, along with raw materials for ferro-alloy production — this is an energy and industrial port, not a container terminal. Bulk carriers reach the Kii Channel berths in around 9 m of water. The Tokushima-prefecture hinterland is served by road and rail. Containerised and general cargo move through the large Kansai ports of Kobe and Osaka, with Komatsushima as a regional option. International container clearance at Tachibana is not confirmed.
