From 935 tonnes in 2013 to more than 3,000 tonnes a year today, dried-fish output makes Sumbe (AO NDD), the capital of Angola's Cuanza Sul province, one of the region's two main fish-processing hubs. The port itself is an open roadstead with no deep-water quay, offering roughly 3.4 m at the cargo pier and 7.3 m at anchorage. Fuel oil bunkering is not available and repair capacity is rated limited, with no dry dock on site. Container and bulk shippers instead route through the larger ports of Lobito to the south or Luanda to the north. A new deep-water facility under construction at Amboim, also in Cuanza Sul, is set to give the province more direct access to international liner services.
