Capacity at Subic Bay is set to climb from about 600,000 TEU toward one million, the headline figure behind a major upgrade of this Philippine container gateway. On the Luzon peninsula, ICTSI subsidiary SBITC runs the New Container Terminals NCT-1 and NCT-2, with investment exceeding 130 million US dollars in new quay cranes and hybrid rubber-tyred gantries. In October 2025 ICTSI's units SBITC and ISI secured a 25-year concession extension to 2058. By 2032 four post-Panamax cranes are due, enabling vessels of up to 8,500 TEU, while reefer plugs grow from 675 to about 1,000 by the end of 2025. A separate general-cargo and roll-on/roll-off terminal is planned in the Boton area. Serving as the gateway to northern and central Luzon, the port covers the Subic and Clark free zones and the hinterland of Pampanga, Bataan, Tarlac and La Union via expressway links. For Metro Manila cargo, however, MICT, South Harbor and Batangas remain the closer alternatives.
