Fourteen berths, around 6.8 million tonnes of annual bulk capacity and vessels up to roughly 70,000 dwt define Su-Ao, a natural harbour on Taiwan's north-east coast. Declared an international commercial port in 1978, it works as an auxiliary to nearby Keelung and specialises in dry and liquid bulk rather than boxes. Dedicated wharves separate cement, coal and petroleum products from chemicals and dangerous goods, reflecting the cargo mix that crosses the quay.
