The limestone producer Nordkalk runs Storugns on the north coast of Gotland as a dedicated dry-bulk export port. From the largest limestone deposit in the Nordic region, the company ships roughly 2.7 million tonnes a year, mainly to steel mills in Sweden and Finland, with part of the stone burned into quicklime by its subsidiary KPAB. The West Pier allows drafts up to 9.0 m and vessels of around 23,000 DWT, suiting handysize bulk carriers across some 400 calls annually. Marine diesel is available, repair options are limited, and there is no container or breakbulk handling. Forwarders should treat Storugns purely as a loading and discharge point for dry-bulk cargo. Containerised or mixed Gotland traffic belongs at Visby, with Oxelösund and Finnish steel ports on the receiving side.
