Behind the code AGSJO lies St John's Deep Water Harbour, the gateway through which almost all of Antigua and Barbuda's foreign trade passes — about 32,600 TEU, some 1.36 million tonnes of cargo and around 673,000 cruise passengers a year. A USD 90 million redevelopment by CCECC, financed through China Exim Bank and completed in 2022, rebuilt the port around a 366-metre concrete berth with two cranes and a draught of about 10 metres. As the only container terminal in the OECS, it doubles as a transshipment point for neighbouring Eastern Caribbean islands. Most of the nation's consumer goods arrive here, with customs clearance and delivery often completed the same day. The port authority plans to add warehousing, distribution and fulfilment services along with bunkering. There is no rail link, so onward distribution relies on the island road network. For larger regional box volumes, San Juan or Kingston remain the stronger hubs.
