# St Anthony (CA SAT)

**UN/LOCODE:** CA SAT
**Country:** Canada
**Water Body:** North Atlantic Ocean
**GPS:** 51.3667, -55.5667

Named in 1534 by explorer Jacques Cartier, St. Anthony on the northern tip of Newfoundland (UN/LOCODE CA SAT) has been one of the region's key fishing settlements for over a century. The port has dry docks, ship-repair yards and cold-storage facilities, plus a marine service centre expanded under a harbour development project. Since 2018, the local processor St. Anthony Seafoods (owned by Clearwater Seafoods and Quin Sea Fisheries) has again been filleting Atlantic cod on site for the first time since the 1992 fishing moratorium. As the supply hub for the Northern Peninsula, the harbour mainly serves the fishing fleet and local resupply, while larger container and general cargo moves through Corner Brook, roughly 440 kilometres away.
