Copra, abaca fibre and cattle once crossed the pier at Sorsogon, a commercial loading point for this southeastern Luzon province in the 1960s. Today the well-sheltered natural harbour is very small and geared mainly to Philippine domestic traffic, without facilities for international container or bulk cargo. Road links connect it to the wider Bicol region for onward distribution. The main inter-island RoRo and ferry flows between Luzon and the Visayas run through the nearby terminals of Matnog and Bulan, while Legazpi is the closest port with greater breakbulk and container capacity.
