Around 1.8 million tonnes and roughly 140,000 TEU a year move across three berths and some 510 metres of quay at Songkhla Harbor (TH SGK), the deep-sea port of southern Thailand near the Malaysian border on the Gulf of Thailand. Built mainly to export the region's rubber, it handles rubber, rubber gloves, rubberwood, latex, frozen food, general cargo and containers outbound, with fertiliser, frozen fish and building materials among the imports, served by dedicated container, bulk and rubber terminals. The harbour also acts as a regional supply base for offshore oil and gas. Road and rail carry cargo into the southern Thai hinterland. For very large container volumes, the national hub of Laem Chabang and Malaysia's Penang remain the practical alternatives.
