Timber products, wood pulp, paper and farm produce go out; corn, clay, chemicals, steel plates, timber and woodchips come in – Sölvesborg is a working bulk and breakbulk port at the head of Sölvesborgsviken in Blekinge, on the northern side of Hanöbukten. It handles around 700,000 tonnes a year across roughly 500 vessel calls, with good facilities for general and liquid cargoes. Outer berths take ships up to 170 m and 7.7 m draught; inner berths up to 125 m and 5.8 m. Road and rail link it to the southern Swedish hinterland. There is no significant liner container service here. For containerised cargo, Karlshamn and Karlskrona are the natural alternatives nearby.
