A roughly 6,000-tonne vessel marked the 2024 return of the Sokcho–Vladivostok line, and that maiden cargo voyage captures the role of Sokch'o Hang (KR SHO) on South Korea's east coast in Gangwon Province. Sheltered by breakwaters with around 7.9 metres alongside, the port is primarily an international ferry and RoRo gateway toward the Russian Far East, a major fishing base and a cruise call. It is only modestly equipped for conventional container handling, so deep-sea box volumes are not its strength. Road links carry cargo into the Gangwon hinterland along the upgraded east-coast corridor. For container shipments, nearby Donghae and the mega-port of Busan are the practical alternatives.
