More than 75 percent of Sweden's cement leaves the country through Slite, a private works port on the north-eastern coast of Gotland operated by Cementa AB. The adjacent plant, running a rotary kiln since 1919, produces around 2 million tonnes of cement a year, much of it shipped from the port's own quays. Beyond cement, Slite exports timber and agricultural produce and imports oil, fertiliser, fodder and gypsum, handling roughly 233 vessels annually. Dimensions are modest – about 150 m LOA and some 10,000 dwt, with draughts of 7.8 m at the cement pier and 6.7 m at the ocean pier. There is no liner container service; Slite is a bulk and industrial port, and a carbon-capture project (Slite CCS) is planned at the plant. For ferry and general-cargo traffic, Visby is the regional alternative, with Nynäshamn and Oskarshamn serving the mainland.
