A single buoy mooring rather than a harbour, the Sirus (Soroosh) terminal sits offshore some 50 nautical miles west-south-west of Kharg Island in the northern Persian Gulf. Crude is the only product: oil piped from the Soroosh field – Iran's largest offshore deposit – is held in a floating storage unit of around 2.2 million barrels and loaded onto tankers of up to 300,000 dwt in a bow-to-bow tandem arrangement. The grade is a heavy, sour crude (roughly 19–20° API, 3–4% sulphur), and there is no container, breakbulk or shore-side customs activity whatsoever. Conventional forwarding has no role here, and Iranian crude exports are subject to extensive international sanctions. For commercial cargo into Iran, Bandar Abbas (Shahid Rajaee) or Bushehr are the relevant gateways.
